Class #5

 Date: March 16th, 2024

The teacher started the class with a listening activity because the idea is improve this skill every day. In this opportunity, I saw better results in my answers because I have studied every day. Because of that, Discipline is a fundamental pillar for successfully learning English. Authors like Ellis (2019) and Schmidt (2001) agree that consistent dedication and regular practice are essential for achieving fluency, vocabulary, grammar, speaking, reading, writing and listening. With this in mind, discipline is really important for the next reasons:

  • It helps you create a habit: Consistency allows you to turn studying English into a natural part of your daily routine.
  • It helps you overcome procrastination: Discipline pushes you to keep going even when you don't feel like studying.
  • It motivates you to keep learning: The satisfaction of seeing your progress encourages you to keep putting in the effort.
  • It helps you reach your goals: Discipline allows you to stay focused and not lose sight of your objectives.

Moreover, in this class we learned about Passive voice, I am really happy and grateful because I undertood this topic and I used to think this topic was very difficult, however, the practice and the different examples helped me to undertand this important topic. The passive voice has different uses, for example:

1. It is used when the person/thing performing the action is unimportant or unknown. For instance: our car was stolen last night.

2. It is used when it is obvious who/what is performing the action, for instance: Cameron was sacked last week.

3. It is used to describe factual information, especially when describing a process, for instance: the lasagna is baked in an oven for 35 minutes at 250 degrees celsius.

4. It is used in news reports and to give instructions, for intance: five people were arrested at night club last night.

The structure of passive voice is: object+to be+past participle

Some examples are the next:

To close, I consider the class was really nice because I learned important topics in english, and If I want to be a good english teacher, I need to know grammar to teach a good english to my students.
